AXXIS: 'Best Of' Collection Detailed

EMI Electrola will release the "Best Of" album from German metallers AXXIS on November 17.

EMI Electrola originally asked AXXIS for their co-operation in releasing a "best of" collection from the band several years ago. But the group was reluctant to release a compilation of material that was already available on the market. AXXIS singer Bernhard Weiss explained: "Contractually EMI is allowed to [do] with our old songs [as they please], but in this case we wouldn't support this project!"

After a long period of negotiations, the label and the band are now very happy with the final result.

Featuring previously unreleased material, remixed songs, and special acoustic versions of older tracks recorded earlier this year at Soundworxx studio, "Best Of" is a double CD containing ballads on the first disc and acoustic recordings on the second disc.

Said Weiss: "We were able to convince the label to invest a little bit more money into the project to get a worthy result. Today everybody is able to create their own AXXIS song collection or own sampler with [CD burning] etc. If a major label wants to release a 'best of,' it must be more special!"

CHRIS CAFFERY Pays Tribute To CRISS OLIVA

SAVATAGE / DOCTOR BUTCHER / TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA guitarist Chris Caffery issued the following tribute to Savatage guitarist Criss Oliva yesterday (October 17th), the day he passed away in 1993 in a car accident:

"Hi all...

Today is the day we lost one of the greatest musicians ever. He was also a dear friend, a brother.

Criss Oliva was taken from us 13 years ago. Some of you are very aware of this, those who are not I wanted to place a reminder here today.

In the Criss Oliva forum Kat has posted about sending donations for a floral arrangement at his memorial. If you get the time and would like to help, please stop by.

The lives of all of us in the Savatage and Oliva family have never been the same since. The lives of millions of Savatage fans have never been the same. One can only imagne the magic he would have brought to our live through his music today.

Missing you as always Criss!

This is a song we dedicated to him live (Click a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9sZkVlnkH4" target="_blank">here' to open link) He never even got to play in Greece, but the kids there love him as much as we all do!!!!"
