After the break-up with the Sound Riot Records, Norwegian power metallers decided to found their own label to be musically independent. Quality is in everything: good layout (which reminded me IRON MAIDEN “The Trooper” single cover), nice studio record in TopRoom and matering in Finnvox studios. The sound is heavier than previous full-length, the band went from “edguy-side” to the “thrash side”. Thomas Hansen voice can’t be titled power metal-cliché. Music of GAIA EPICUS is close to the old German metal group ANGEL DUST, vocally too.
The songs are quite different, they’re not the “clones”, every composition has it’s own feature, which is the big plus. Two instrumental songs differes from the power/thrash blockbusters: beautiful sad In Memory (as I think, it’s devoted to the memory of tragically died member of GAIA EPICUS – Yngve Hanssen) and grimy When Darkness Falls.
I recommend this album to all power/thrash metal fans, and to the musicians – to grow musically on the chosen way.
