CANDLEMASS are a Swedish epic doom metal band from Stockholm, founded in 1985 by bassist Leif Edling. Widely regarded as the definitive founders of epic doom metal, their landmark debut "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" (1986) codified an entire genre. With soaring operatic vocals — first Messiah Marcolin, later Robert Lowe and Johan Längqvist — crushed under impossibly heavy riffs, they have explored dark fantasy, religion, doom, life, death, and hell across a celebrated catalogue. Now on Napalm Records, CANDLEMASS remain active and revered as absolute legends of heavy metal.
