DARK TRANQUILLITY are a Swedish melodic death metal band from Gothenburg, founded in 1991. Alongside IN FLAMES and AT THE GATES, they are one of the founding acts of the Gothenburg melodic death metal sound — combining brutally downtuned riffs with melodic guitar leads, keyboards, and introspective, literary lyrics about death, memories, despair, and chaos theory. Signed to Century Media, they have maintained an exceptional level of quality and artistic integrity across over a dozen albums. DARK TRANQUILLITY remain the most consistently excellent melodic death metal band of their generation.
