"Flotsam" and "jetsam" are nautical terms, describing goods washed overboard by waves (flotsam) or deliberately thrown overboard by a ship's crew (jetsam). Founded in 1981 as Paradox by Kelly David-Smith, Pete Mello, Dave Goulder, and Jason Newsted who left the band in 1986 to join Metallica. "Marshall Law" and "Flotsam & Jetsam" are 2 original tracks by pre-Flotsam and Jetsam band Dredlox, which have circulated through underground tape trading as part of a 1982 rehearsal. On the same recording are cover songs by Motörhead, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, and Judas Priest.
