NARGAROTH
NARGAROTH is a German black metal one-man project founded in 1996 by René Wagner, known under the stage names Kanwulf (early career) and Ash (from 2007 onward). Based in Germany, the project quickly established itself as a cult name in the European underground black metal scene.
Wagner describes NARGAROTH's sound as "German Hateful and Misanthropic Metal" — a raw, atmospheric strain of black metal rooted in darkness, solitude, and contempt for modern society. The debut album Herbstleyd (1998) set the tone with bleak, depressive riffs and stripped-down production. The 2001 album Black Metal ist Krieg became one of the most recognized titles in the genre, cementing the band's legacy.
Over a career spanning three decades, NARGAROTH has released a string of uncompromising albums through labels including No Colours Records, Inter Arma Productions, and Season of Mist. The project has remained consistently active, releasing Era of Threnody in 2017 and announcing Apocalyptic Steel in 2026.
