On April 30, 2021, French progressive metal giants GOJIRA released "Fortitude," their seventh studio album and their most commercially successful record. Debuting at number twelve on the Billboard 200, the album demonstrated that extreme metal could achieve mainstream visibility without compromising artistic integrity. Songs like "Born for One Thing," "Another World," and "The Chant" showcased GOJIRA's signature blend of groove-driven heaviness, environmental consciousness, and transcendent atmosphere. Nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance, "Fortitude" marked a historic moment for French metal on the world stage. The album remains GOJIRA's defining statement and one of the most important metal records of the 2020s.
