The 2026 edition of 70,000 Tons of Metal, the world's biggest heavy metal cruise, has departed Miami aboard Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas for a four-day voyage to Nassau, The Bahamas. Running from January 29 through February 2, the floating festival features 61 bands performing over 120 sets across four stages, delivering an experience that no traditional festival on solid ground can replicate.

The stages include the five-story Royal Theater, the intimate Star Lounge, Studio B, and the iconic Pool Deck — each offering a distinct atmosphere that ranges from theater-quality sound to open-air chaos under the Caribbean sky. Headlining the 2026 edition are thrash legends ANTHRAX, Finnish melodic metal masters AMORPHIS, Swedish melodic death metal pioneers DARK TRANQUILLITY, their Gothenburg compatriots SOILWORK, Swiss folk metal warriors ELUVEITIE, symphonic power metal outfit KAMELOT, British gothic doom legends PARADISE LOST, Finnish power metal sensation BEAST IN BLACK, and Italian symphonic metal institution RHAPSODY OF FIRE.

The heavier end of the bill is well represented by Polish death metal veterans VADER and Bay Area thrash revivalists VIO-LENCE, who bring raw aggression and circle-pit energy to the pool deck. Finnish melodic death metal outfit INSOMNIUM and Swedish gothic metal act TRIBULATION provide atmospheric counterweight with their darker, more introspective brand of heaviness. CEMETARY SKYLINE, the supergroup featuring members of DARK TRANQUILLITY, INSOMNIUM, AMORPHIS, and SENTENCED, adds another layer of intrigue to an already stacked lineup.

Early reports from attendees describe the unique intimacy of the cruise setting, where passengers enjoy unrestricted access to artists between and during sets — an experience unlike any traditional festival format. From hallway jam sessions to impromptu poolside conversations with musicians, the cruise creates a community atmosphere that has made 70,000 Tons of Metal one of the most coveted tickets in the global metal calendar.

The cruise also features themed activities including metal karaoke, artist-led panel discussions, and autograph sessions, ensuring that every moment aboard the Freedom of the Seas is steeped in heavy metal culture.
