IRON MAIDEN Receive Third Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nomination

IRON MAIDEN have received their third Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination, appearing on the 2026 "Performer" ballot alongside Oasis, Wu-Tang Clan, Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Shakira, Mariah Carey, and 10 other artists and acts. The nomination comes as the band celebrates their 50th anniversary year, having formed in Leyton, East London in 1975 when bassist Steve Harris assembled the first lineup.

The band was previously nominated in 2021 and 2023, failing to secure induction both times despite fan campaigns that generated millions of votes through the Hall's public ballot. The voting process combines a fan component with votes from over 1,200 artists, historians, and industry professionals, with results announced in April and an induction ceremony typically held in the fall.

However, the nomination carries a familiar complication: vocalist Bruce Dickinson has publicly stated on multiple occasions that he would "refuse" induction, arguing that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has historically marginalized heavy metal and only nominates metal bands as a token gesture. His stance echoes sentiments expressed by other metal figures, though it contrasts with the enthusiastic reception JUDAS PRIEST and OZZY OSBOURNE gave to their own inductions in recent years.

IRON MAIDEN's credentials are beyond question — over 100 million albums sold worldwide, pioneering contributions to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, and a live show featuring their iconic mascot Eddie that has defined arena metal for four decades. Their 2025 "Run for Your Lives" world tour, the first without retired drummer Nicko McBrain, has been one of the year's highest-grossing metal tours. Whether the Hall finally opens its doors to IRON MAIDEN — and whether Bruce Dickinson would walk through them — remains one of the most compelling storylines in rock music.
