MEGADETH have released their self-titled seventeenth and final studio album via Dave Mustaine's Tradecraft imprint in partnership with Frontiers Label Group's BLKIIBLK. The 10-track record is the first to feature Finnish guitarist Teemu Mantysaari, who replaced Kiko Loureiro in 2023, and the first with bassist James LoMenzo since 2009's "Endgame." Drummer Dirk Verbeuren, who joined the band in 2016, rounds out the lineup on what Mustaine has repeatedly described as the definitive closing chapter.

Previously released singles "Tipping Point," "I Don't Care," "Let There Be Shred," and "Puppet Parade" make up the album's backbone, each showcasing a different facet of the band's sound — from razor-sharp thrash riffing to melodic complexity and lyrical introspection. The album's production, handled by Mustaine alongside trusted collaborators, delivers a raw yet polished sound that recalls the classic era of "Rust in Peace" and "Countdown to Extinction" while pushing into modern sonic territory.

A bonus track — a reimagined cover of METALLICA's "Ride the Lightning," co-written by Mustaine during his brief tenure in the band back in 1983 — closes the record as a full-circle gesture that has drawn emotional reactions from fans worldwide. The choice to end the final album with this particular track underscores the complex, intertwined history of thrash metal's two biggest bands.

The "Megadeth: Behind the Mask" documentary premiered in theaters yesterday, offering a companion piece to the album with Mustaine's candid track-by-track commentary. Early reviews praise the album as a worthy farewell, with critics highlighting the chemistry between Mustaine and Mantysaari as a creative spark that elevates the record beyond nostalgia. Physical formats, including limited-edition vinyl pressings and a deluxe box set, are already selling briskly.
