Metal Hall of Fame Announces 2026 Inductee Class

The Metal Hall of Fame has announced its 2026 class of inductees, honoring a group of musicians whose collective contributions helped define the explosive Sunset Strip rock and metal scene that captivated the world in the 1980s. The ceremony is set for January 21 at three iconic venues on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood — the Rainbow Bar & Grill, the Roxy Theater, and the Viper Room — a fitting triumvirate of locations that witnessed countless legendary performances during the scene's heyday.

This year's inductees read like a who's who of Sunset Strip royalty: Warren DeMartini, the virtuoso guitarist whose fluid, blues-infused playing defined RATT's sound across multi-platinum albums like "Out of the Cellar" and "Invasion of Your Privacy." Chris Holmes, the notorious W.A.S.P. axeman whose raw, aggressive style and infamous swimming pool interview in the documentary "The Decline of Western Civilization Part II" made him one of the era's most colorful figures. Tracii Guns, the co-founder and namesake of L.A. GUNS (and briefly GUNS N' ROSES), whose gritty, street-level riffing provided the soundtrack to countless Sunset Strip nights.

The class also includes Rikki Rockett, POISON's flamboyant drummer whose energetic performances helped propel the band to multi-platinum success and mainstream visibility that brought the Sunset Strip scene to Middle America. Gilby Clarke, who served as GUNS N' ROSES' rhythm guitarist during the "Use Your Illusion" touring cycle and subsequently built a respected solo career. And Riki Rachtman, the beloved host of MTV's "Headbangers Ball" from 1990 to 1995, who served as heavy metal's ambassador to mainstream television audiences during a crucial era of the genre's commercial peak.

The ceremony promises performances, tributes, and personal reflections on an era that, for all its excess and controversy, produced some of rock and metal's most enduring music. The Sunset Strip scene's influence extends far beyond its geographic boundaries — its combination of visual flamboyance, accessible songwriting, and unapologetic hedonism created a template that influenced countless bands worldwide.

The Metal Hall of Fame, founded in 2017, has steadily grown in prestige, with previous inductees including members of BLACK SABBATH, JUDAS PRIEST, and MOTORHEAD.
