Italian comedy metal kings NANOWAR OF STEEL have released their latest EP, "The Genghis Khan EP To End All Genghis Khan EPs," via Napalm Records, continuing their celebrated tradition of combining technically proficient heavy metal with absurdist humor, sharp satire and an encyclopedic knowledge of metal's many subgenres. The Rome-based quintet, active since 2003, have built their reputation on a simple but effective premise: that heavy metal and comedy are not mutually exclusive, and that parodying the genre you love requires playing it at the highest possible level.

The EP's characteristically overwrought title is itself a parody of metal's tendency toward grandiosity, and the music within follows suit. NANOWAR OF STEEL's parodies span every corner of the metal universe — from the blast beats and tremolo picking of Norwegian-style блек-метал to the soaring choruses and fantasy themes of European pауер-метал, from the guttural vocals of death metal to the folk instrumentation of Viking metal. Each parody demonstrates that the band members are genuine virtuosos who could hold their own in any serious metal outfit.

The EP drops alongside today's wave of January 9 releases, sitting in delightful contrast to the earnest heaviness of ALTER BRIDGE, the symphonic grandeur of BEYOND THE BLACK and the progressive ambitions of IOTUNN. In a release day dominated by serious musical statements, NANOWAR OF STEEL offer a welcome reminder that metal has always had room for irreverence and self-awareness.

The band remains one of metal's most entertaining live acts, with their concerts blending genuine musical firepower with theatrical absurdity, costume changes and audience participation that borders on the surreal. European festival appearances are expected throughout summer 2026, where they will undoubtedly steal the show on whichever stage they grace.
