Metalcore pioneers POISON THE WELL have announced "Peace In Place," their first new album in 17 years, set for release on March 20. The Miami-area band previewed the album with the blistering single "Thoroughbreds." Vocalist Jeffrey Moreira declared that "Peace In Place is probably the most pissed record we've ever made." Formed in the late '90s, POISON THE WELL helped shape the metalcore genre with their landmark 1999 debut "The Opposite Of December... A Season Of Separation." The band went on hiatus after 2009's "The Tropic Rot."

The new album does not include their 2025 comeback single "Trembling Level" but promises a furious return to form that acknowledges the band's legacy while pushing into new sonic territory. Moreira explained in a recent interview that the 17-year gap between albums was never intended to be permanent — life simply intervened. "We never officially broke up," he said. "We just stopped, and then years kept passing. When we finally got back in a room together, the chemistry was immediate. It was like plugging into an amplifier you haven't touched in years and finding out it still sounds massive."

"Thoroughbreds" backs up that claim with a visceral intensity that recalls the chaotic energy of the band's earlier work while incorporating a more refined production approach. The guitars, handled by Ryan Primack, are layered with a density that borders on wall-of-sound territory, complemented by Chris Hornbrook's relentless, pattern-shifting drumming. Producer Will Yip, known for his work with TURNSTILE and TITLE FIGHT, captured the sessions at Studio 4 in Philadelphia. The album clocks in at 11 tracks and promises to be one of 2026's most significant heavy music comebacks. Pre-orders are available now, with limited vinyl variants already selling out.
