GORGUTS to Enter Studio in March to Record Long-Awaited New Album

Canadian death metal innovators GORGUTS are preparing to enter the studio around March 2026 to begin recording their long-awaited new album, the first full-length since 2013's universally acclaimed "Colored Sands." The anticipation for new GORGUTS material has been building for over a decade, and the band recently took a significant step forward by spending three days recording pre-production demos for four new songs at bassist Colin Marston's new studio facility in Pennsylvania.

Mastermind Luc Lemay has been meticulously developing material over the past several years, a process consistent with his reputation as one of the most thoughtful and uncompromising composers in extreme metal. Lemay's approach to songwriting has always prioritized depth and innovation over speed, and his willingness to take the time necessary to realize his vision has been vindicated by the extraordinary quality of every GORGUTS release. The new tracks reportedly promise to continue the band's tradition of pushing technical death metal into uncharted territory, exploring complex harmonic and rhythmic structures that challenge both the musicians and the listener.

GORGUTS' discography stands as one of the most remarkable artistic journeys in death metal history. From the raw brutality of their 1991 debut "Considered Dead" through the avant-garde labyrinth of 1998's "Obscura" — widely regarded as one of the most important and forward-thinking death metal albums ever recorded — to the majestic sweep of "Colored Sands" and the ambitious 33-minute single-track EP "Pleiades' Dust" (2016), Lemay has consistently refused to repeat himself or settle for convention.

The current lineup features Lemay alongside bassist Colin Marston (KRALLICE, BEHOLD... THE ARCTOPUS), guitarist Kevin Hufnagel (DYSRHYTHMIA), and drummer Patrice Hamelin. No release date or label has been confirmed yet, but given the pre-production progress, a late 2026 or early 2027 release window seems likely. The band debuted new material live at Northwest Terror Fest in Seattle, giving fans a tantalizing preview of what is to come.
