New York death metal veterans IMMOLATION have announced their twelfth studio album "Descent," arriving April 10 via Nuclear Blast Records. The first single "Adversary" is a crushing blend of blast beats, dissonant riffing, and Ross Dolan's commanding growls, accompanied by a music video directed by guitarist Bob Vigna -- a fitting visual complement to one of death metal's most technically accomplished and atmospherically dense acts.
The 10-track album features songs including "These Vengeful Winds," "The Ephemeral Curse," "God's LAST BREATH," "Attrition," "Bend Towards The Dark," "Host," "False Ascent," "Banished," and the title track "Descent." Guitars, bass, and vocals were tracked at Jpass Music, while drums were recorded at Mercinary Studios with Noah Buchanan. Production was handled by the band alongside longtime engineer Zack Ohren, who also mixed and mastered the record -- maintaining the collaborative approach that has yielded consistently powerful results across IMMOLATION's recent discography.
The band has stated that "Descent" takes what they have done on their last couple of records and "truly brings it to a new level," staying true to their roots while venturing into some ambitious new territory, "taking nods from even our earliest moments." Since their 1991 debut "Dawn Of Possession," IMMOLATION have built a reputation as one of death metal's most consistently excellent and uncompromising acts, influencing countless bands with their signature blend of dissonant, churning riffs, unconventional song structures, and Vigna's uniquely angular guitar work.
IMOLATION will join MAYHEM on the "Death Over Europe Tour" alongside MARDUK before linking up with BEHEMOTH's North American "Godless IV" run with DEICIDE and ROTTING CHRIST -- an extraordinary double booking that will keep the band on the road for much of the spring and early summer. For a band that has never compromised their artistic vision across three decades, "Descent" promises to be yet another essential chapter in one of death metal's most distinguished catalogs.
