OPETH and KATATONIA's co-headlining North American tour launches tomorrow, February 5, at The Wellmont Theater in Montclair, New Jersey. The Swedish progressive metal pairing brings together two of the genre's most revered and influential acts for a 15-date run through February 25 in Vancouver, British Columbia — a dream billing that has generated enormous anticipation among progressive metal devotees.

OPETH's Mikael Akerfeldt and KATATONIA's Jonas Renkse share a deep musical kinship that stretches back to the early 1990s Stockholm metal scene, where both bands emerged as torchbearers of a new wave of emotionally sophisticated, genre-defying heavy music. Akerfeldt contributed vocals to KATATONIA's seminal "Brave Murder Day" album in 1996, forging a bond between the two camps that has endured for three decades. To see them share a stage as co-headliners feels like a culmination of that shared history.

OPETH are touring behind "The Last Will And Testament," released in October 2024 via Reigning Phoenix Music, which marked a return to the band's heavier roots while maintaining the progressive complexity that has defined their recent work. The album's conceptual narrative and dynamic shifts between brutality and beauty make for compelling live material. KATATONIA, meanwhile, continue to evolve their melancholic progressive rock/metal sound, delivering performances that balance crushing heaviness with ethereal atmosphere.

KATATONIA has also announced select headline dates around the co-headlining run, giving fans additional opportunities to see the band in more intimate settings. For progressive metal enthusiasts, this tour represents one of the most compelling live packages of early 2026, uniting two bands whose combined discographies represent some of the finest music the genre has ever produced.
