SAXON Complete Mixing New Album; BIFF BYFORD Says Cancer Scans Are Clear

SAXON frontman Biff Byford has delivered uplifting news on two fronts that will bring relief and excitement to the band's devoted global fanbase: the band's 25th studio album has been fully mixed by veteran producer Andy Sneap, and Byford's cancer scans show "everything is clear" six months after undergoing surgery for bowel cancer.

The health update is particularly significant given the scare that rippled through the heavy metal community when Byford's cancer diagnosis became public in mid-2025. The beloved vocalist — one of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal's most iconic figures — was forced to cancel several summer festival appearances while undergoing chemotherapy, a period that tested both his physical endurance and the patience of fans who feared the worst. "I'm feeling very good," Byford told fans in a social media update. "The support from everyone during this time has been incredible, and I'm looking forward to getting back out there."

Musically, the new album represents the next chapter following 2024's "Hell, Fire And Damnation," which was widely praised as one of SAXON's strongest efforts in decades. Drummer Nigel Glockler, who has been a cornerstone of the band's rhythm section since 1981, described the forthcoming record as "a lot more groove-orientated, but it's very heavy." The involvement of Sneap — whose production credits include JUDAS PRIEST, ACCEPT, and MEGADETH — guarantees a modern, powerful sound that respects the band's classic identity.

The album also features Brian Tatler, the DIAMOND HEAD co-founder who has become a permanent member of SAXON's touring lineup after replacing longtime guitarist Paul Quinn. Tatler's presence adds a fresh creative dimension to the band's songwriting. A late 2026 release around September or October is targeted, with touring expected to follow shortly thereafter. For a band approaching five decades of continuous activity, SAXON's creative vitality remains genuinely remarkable.
