British heavy metal band TAILGUNNER will release "Midnight Blitz" on February 6 via Napalm Records, produced by the legendary K.K. Downing, co-founding guitarist of JUDAS PRIEST and one of the architects of the twin-guitar attack that defined heavy metal in the late 1970s and 1980s. The partnership between a young NWOBHM revival act and one of the genre's founding fathers lends the sophomore album an air of authenticity and lineage that few modern metal records can claim.
The connection between TAILGUNNER and Downing formed organically when the band served as support act for KK'S PRIEST, Downing's post-JUDAS PRIEST outfit. Impressed by their energy, musicianship, and genuine passion for classic heavy metal, Downing offered to produce their second album — an opportunity the band seized without hesitation. His production sensibility brings clarity and power to the recordings while preserving the raw, urgent quality that makes TAILGUNNER exciting.
The 10-track album delivers pure heavy metal in the proudest NWOBHM tradition, channeling the spirit of early IRON MAIDEN, SAXON, and of course JUDAS PRIEST without devolving into pastiche. Highlights include the galloping title track, the emotionally resonant "Tears In Rain," and the epic "War In Heaven" featuring guest keyboardist Adam Wakeman, son of prog legend Rick Wakeman and a touring member of both OZZY OSBOURNE's and BLACK SABBATH's bands.
Early reviews praise "Midnight Blitz" as a successful evolution of the TAILGUNNER sound, noting that Downing's mentorship has helped the band tighten their songwriting without sacrificing the spontaneous energy that characterizes the new wave of traditional heavy metal bands. The album arrives at a moment when interest in classic-style heavy metal is experiencing a genuine resurgence across Europe and beyond.
