THE CURE won Best Alternative Music Album and Best Alternative Music Performance at the 2026 Grammys for "Songs of a Lost World" and its lead single "Alone," marking the first Grammy wins in the band's 47-year career. For Robert Smith and his bandmates, the double victory was a long-overdue validation from the Recording Academy, one that recognized not only the album's excellence but the enduring relevance of a group that helped define alternative rock.

"Songs of a Lost World," released in November 2024, was THE CURE's first studio album in sixteen years, ending one of rock music's most agonizing waits. The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart — their first chart-topper since "Wish" in 1992 — and charted highly in over 30 countries. Critics hailed it as one of the finest albums of 2024, praising its dark, sweeping atmospheric grandeur and Smith's emotionally devastating vocal performances.

The album's lead single "Alone" set the tone with over eight minutes of brooding, layered guitars and Smith's haunting reflections on mortality and loss. Tracks like "And Nothing Is Forever" and "Endsong" further cemented the record as a meditation on grief, aging, and the passage of time — themes that resonated deeply with both longtime devotees and a new generation of listeners discovering THE CURE through viral social media moments.

Smith has teased that a companion album — the sequel to "Songs of a Lost World" featuring "probably 10 songs" — is on track for release before summer 2025. THE CURE continue their extensive world touring in support of the album, with Smith describing the current lineup as the most cohesive the band has been in decades.
