One-man Indigenous black metal project BLACKBRAID has announced a surprise three-track EP titled "Nocturnal Womb," set for release on March 6 via Napalm Records. Mastermind Sgah'gahsowáh describes the material as "too dark and visceral" for inclusion on the critically acclaimed "Blackbraid III," which dropped to universal praise in late 2025 and cemented the project's status as one of black metal's most vital modern voices.
Lead single "Celestial Bloodlust" has been released alongside a performance video filmed in the forests of the Adirondack Mountains — the same wilderness that has inspired BLACKBRAID's music since the project's inception. The track is a savage, atmospheric blast of tremolo-picked fury underpinned by thunderous blast beats, channeling the raw spirit of second-wave Norwegian black metal while maintaining the distinctly North American identity that sets BLACKBRAID apart from countless imitators.
The EP also includes an acoustic rendition of "Barefoot Ghost Dance on Blood Soaked Soil," a fan-favorite track that takes on new emotional depth in its stripped-down arrangement. The third track remains unrevealed, with Sgah'gahsowáh promising it will be "the most extreme thing I have ever recorded." A limited 10-inch vinyl pressing in transparent blood red with black marbling has been announced through Napalm Records, with only 1,000 copies available worldwide.
The EP was recorded and mixed at Hollow Anvil Studio, where all BLACKBRAID material has been produced. Since bursting onto the scene with the debut album in 2022, the project has rapidly ascended from underground curiosity to festival headliner, with appearances at Maryland Deathfest, Roadburn, and Psycho Las Vegas under its belt.
