DIMMU BORGIR Announce First Album in Eight Years — 'Grand Serpent Rising'

DIMMU BORGIR have broken their eight-year recording silence. The Norwegian symphonic black metal titans announced their tenth studio album, Grand Serpent Rising, scheduled for release on May 22, 2026, through Nuclear Blast Records.

The announcement arrived alongside the debut of "Ulvgjeld & Blodsodel," the album's lead single and music video. Notably, the track is sung entirely in Norwegian — a deliberate step back toward the band's cultural roots that frontman Shagrath described as "a way of grounding ourselves in the Nordic tradition that first gave us our identity."

Grand Serpent Rising was produced by Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden — the same studio responsible for landmark recordings from IN FLAMES, AT THE GATES, and DARK TRANQUILLITY. The album comprises thirteen tracks and is said to lean into orchestral grandeur more fully than any DIMMU BORGIR release since Abrahadabra (2010).

The band's previous album, Eonian (2018), was their most commercially successful, charting highly across Europe and debuting at number one in Norway. With Grand Serpent Rising, the group aims to push further into cinematic, large-scale production while retaining the extreme metal core that built their fanbase across three decades.

Vinyl, CD, and limited deluxe editions are available for pre-order via Nuclear Blast. The band has confirmed European and North American tour dates in support of the album, including an October co-headline run alongside BEHEMOTH.
