NEUROSIS Speak on Recruiting Aaron Turner as New Vocalist

Steve Von Till and Aaron Turner sat down this week to speak at length about how Turner came to join NEUROSIS as their new vocalist, following the departure of co-founding member Scott Kelly in 2022.

Turner, who founded ISIS in 1997 and later created the equally revered SUMAC with drummer Nick Yacyshyn and bassist Brian Cook, admitted that agreeing to join was straightforward despite the enormity of the situation: "The only hesitation was that it seemed so obvious. NEUROSIS are one of the bands that define what this music can do — what weight it can carry. Saying yes felt inevitable."

Von Till described a mutual admiration going back decades and a series of conversations that began almost immediately after Kelly's exit. The two spent time writing and recording before the new lineup was formally solidified, with the resulting album — An Undying Love for a Burning World — released on March 20, 2026, marking NEUROSIS's first studio record in over a decade.

The album, available digitally and on vinyl through Neurot Recordings, draws on the same themes of endurance, grief, and transformation that have defined NEUROSIS since Pain of Mind (1987). Turner's contributions are described as fully integrated rather than a grafted addition — his post-metal instincts align closely with the direction Von Till and guitarist/vocalist Dave Edwardson have taken.

NEUROSIS will make their first live appearance with Turner at the Fire in the Mountains festival in July 2026 in Wyoming — a rare outing for a band that has always been selective with live performances.
