NEUROSIS have shattered a decade of silence with the surprise release of "An Undying Love For A Burning World", dropped on March 20 via their own Neurot Recordings imprint. The album marks a seismic shift for the Oakland post-metal pioneers, who have recruited Aaron Turner — the creative force behind ISIS and SUMAC — on vocals and guitar.

Turner replaces Scott Kelly, who departed NEUROSIS in 2019 and retired from music entirely in 2022 after admitting to years of domestic abuse. His exit left the band's future in serious doubt, but the remaining members quietly regrouped and began writing with Turner, whose aesthetic sensibilities proved a natural fit for the band's crushing, atmospheric sound.

The album spans eight tracks, building from the slow-burning opener through increasingly dense layers of distortion, drone, and catharsis. The 17-minute closer "Last Light" stands as one of the most ambitious compositions in the band's catalog, weaving Turner's anguished vocals through a sprawling sonic landscape that recalls the best of "Through Silver in Blood" and "A Sun That Never Sets".

Perhaps even more exciting for fans is the announcement that NEUROSIS will headline Fire in the Mountains Festival, taking place July 23-26 in East Glacier, Montana. It will be the band's first live performance in seven years, a prospect that has already sent shockwaves through the underground metal community. The festival setting, surrounded by the raw wilderness of Glacier National Park, seems a fitting backdrop for one of heavy music's most transcendent acts to make their return.
