PARADISE LOST have released "Darker Thoughts," the lead single from their upcoming seventeenth studio album, expected later in 2026 via Nuclear Blast Records. The track, produced by longtime collaborator Jaime Gomez Arellano at Orgone Studios in the UK, demonstrates a band fully in command of their mature gothic doom metal sound while pushing into new territory — featuring synthesizer arrangements more prominent than anything in their recent catalog and a lyrical directness that vocalist Nick Holmes has rarely brought to PARADISE LOST.
"Darker Thoughts" opens with a sparse, piano-led motif before the weight of PARADISE LOST's signature sound descends — Aaron Aedy and Greg Mackintosh's guitars weaving interplay of melody and melancholy, Steve Edmondson's bass providing a deep, warm foundation, and Waltteri Väyrynen's drumming delivering understated power. Holmes's vocals occupy a middle ground between the theatrical doom metal delivery of the band's earlier work and the more conversational, introspective tone that characterized albums like "Medusa" (2017) and "Obsidian" (2021).
Mackintosh confirmed in a press release that the new album continues the creative relationship with Arellano that has produced the band's strongest recent work, and that the material features some of the most varied guitar writing of his career — spanning traditional doom metal riffing, post-punk textures, and what he describes as "some genuinely weird experimental stuff that we weren't sure we'd keep, but the more we listened the more it felt essential." An album title and release date are expected in April 2026.
