SAXON frontman Biff Byford has shared a studio progress update on the band's 25th album, currently being recorded with acclaimed producer Andy Sneap — himself a legendary figure in metal production and the guitarist of JUDAS PRIEST's touring lineup. Byford confirmed that tracking is going well, with the album targeting a late 2026 release through a partnership that has yielded some of SAXON's strongest modern work, including the critically lauded "Hell, Fire And Damnation" in 2024.
Perhaps more importantly, Byford also shared positive health news: six months after his bowel cancer operation — which forced SAXON to cancel multiple 2025 summer shows and rework their touring schedule — a CT scan has shown everything is clear. The 73-year-old heavy metal warrior has been remarkably resilient throughout the ordeal, maintaining his trademark optimism and telling fans to "keep the faith" during his recovery. His return to full vocal form in the studio has reportedly been nothing short of remarkable.
DIAMOND HEAD's Brian Tatler has been recruited for upcoming live shows, continuing his role in the band's current lineup alongside Byford and original member Paul Quinn. Tatler, a founding member of DIAMOND HEAD whose riffs directly influenced a young METALLICA, brings an added dimension of NWOBHM authenticity to SAXON's current incarnation. The new album follows the well-received "Hell, Fire And Damnation," which was praised for revitalizing SAXON's sound while honoring their classic heavy metal roots. With 25 studio albums under their belt, SAXON remain one of the most enduring forces in British heavy metal.
