Wacken Open Air, the world's largest and most iconic heavy metal festival, has confirmed Norwegian symphonic black metal titans DIMMU BORGIR and Bay Area thrash legends TESTAMENT as the latest high-profile additions to its eagerly anticipated 2026 lineup, scheduled for July 30 through August 1 in the small farming village of Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The additions further cement what is shaping up to be one of the most historic and creatively diverse editions of the festival that has been an essential pilgrimage destination for metalheads worldwide since its humble origins in 1990.

DIMMU BORGIR will perform with a full symphony orchestra for their set, creating a once-in-a-festival-season spectacle that promises to be one of the most visually and sonically ambitious performances at Wacken 2026. The band, led by vocalist Shagrath, guitarist Silenoz, and multi-instrumentalist Galder, have long been pioneering innovators in incorporating orchestral elements into extreme metal, as spectacularly showcased on landmark albums like "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia," "Death Cult Armageddon," and "Abrahadabra." Their orchestral live performances are rare and cherished events that consistently draw enormous crowds whenever they are staged.

Bay Area thrash legends TESTAMENT return to the hallowed Wacken grounds for the first time since 2019, bringing their relentless and technically devastating brand of thrash metal to the German festival. Led by the powerful vocalist Chuck Billy and founding guitarist Eric Peterson, TESTAMENT have maintained their well-earned reputation as one of thrash metal's most consistently ferocious and technically proficient live acts across four decades of performing, with their aggressive sound remaining undimmed by the passage of time.

The festival has previously announced an extraordinary headliner trio of IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, and SLIPKNOT — a historic lineup spanning multiple generations of heavy metal. Over 85,000 tickets were sold out within mere hours of the initial on-sale last fall, making Wacken 2026 one of the fastest-selling editions in the festival's 36-year history. Secondary market ticket prices have soared accordingly, with passes reportedly trading at three to four times their face value on resale platforms.
