WINGER Book 2026 Shows After Supposedly Retiring From Touring

The retirement did not last long. WINGER, who wrapped up what were billed as farewell tours in 2025, have quietly booked four shows for 2026. The dates include March 27 in Shipshewana, Indiana; April 26 at Bangers Open Air in Sao Paulo, Brazil; August 27 in Decatur, Illinois; and October 20-25 at the Sands Rocks Festival in Cancun, Mexico.

Drummer Rod Morgenstein offered a candid explanation for the reversal. "Last year turned out to be very rough emotionally — I didn't realize how much my life is tied up in my band," he admitted. It is a sentiment familiar to anyone who has followed rock and metal long enough to see "farewell tours" become something of a running joke in the industry.

Singer Kip Winger, to his credit, was careful not to make absolute declarations when the farewell was announced. "Never say never. Circumstances change," he said at the time, leaving the door open for exactly this scenario. The initial retirement was reportedly prompted by the vocal demands the band's catalog places on Winger, now in his sixties, particularly the high-note passages that defined hits like "Seventeen" and "Headed for a Heartbreak."

WINGER rose to prominence in the late 1980s glam metal scene and survived the grunge-era backlash that decimated many of their contemporaries. The band's later albums, particularly "Karma" and "Better Days Comin'," earned respect for their progressive rock-influenced musicianship that went well beyond their hair metal origins.

Whether these four dates represent a genuine return or merely a few last hurrahs remains to be seen. But for now, fans who missed the farewell tours have another chance to catch WINGER on stage.
