ARCH ENEMY Respond to KIKO LOUREIRO's Copyright Claim Over 'To the Last Breath'

A copyright dispute erupted in the metal world on March 27 when former MEGADETH guitarist Kiko Loureiro took to Instagram to allege that ARCH ENEMY's new single 'To the Last Breath' bore suspicious similarities to 'Talking Dreams,' a track from his 2024 solo album Theory of Mind. Loureiro spliced clips from both music videos together, inviting his followers to draw their own conclusions.

ARCH ENEMY responded swiftly and bluntly. Guitarist Michael Amott posted: "I had the melody back in 2022 already, two years before you released your song. Any similarities are purely coincidental."

The band then went further, publicly releasing original demo recordings with file metadata showing the disputed melody was created in December 2022 — a full two years before Loureiro's version appeared. Manager Angela Gossow issued a statement: "So three notes are the same? Well, I guess that happens quite often in music. We just posted original demo recordings. We simply prefer facts over fiction."

Gossow also invited Loureiro and his legal team to verify the evidence in person backstage at Bangers Open Air in São Paulo, where both artists are scheduled to perform in late April.

The dispute appears to have moved from public social media sparring toward professional resolution. 'To the Last Breath' is the debut single by ARCH ENEMY's new vocalist Lauren Hart, who joined the band following Alissa White-Gluz's departure in late 2025.
