GEOFF TATE Reveals Why 'The Three Tremors' Supergroup With DICKINSON and HALFORD Never Happened

Former QUEENSRŸCHE vocalist Geoff Tate has opened up about one of heavy metal's great missed opportunities: a supergroup called THE THREE TREMORS that would have brought together Tate, IRON MAIDEN's Bruce Dickinson, and JUDAS PRIEST's Rob Halford.

Speaking to Spark magazine, Tate revealed the idea originated at a dinner in 2018, when IRON MAIDEN manager Rod Smallwood — inspired by hearing The Three Tenors at an Italian restaurant — half-jokingly proposed the concept. The three singers toasted the idea, but Tate noted: "That's as far as it ever got, as far as I remember."

The project made some progress: the trio convened in Los Angeles for a writing session and completed roughly three songs. However, Dickinson identified a core creative problem — the difficulty of writing material that genuinely featured three distinct vocal parts rather than simply dividing verses between singers. "It would take us a lot longer than three weeks," Dickinson concluded.

Scheduling conflicts ultimately killed the project. The name was briefly changed to TRINITY to sidestep potential legal issues. Concert promoters had already expressed strong commercial interest despite not a note of music being publicly available.

Perhaps the most intriguing detail: Dickinson initially wanted Ronnie James Dio as the third vocalist rather than Tate, and wrote the song 'Tyranny of Souls' — later released on his 2005 solo album — specifically for the project.
