Austin progressive doom metal band SPIRIT ADRIFT have dropped their sixth and final studio album, "Infinite Illumination", today as a complete surprise via 20 Buck Spin. The release arrives without prior announcement and marks the end of the band — bringing down the curtain on over a decade of consistently stunning heavy music led by mastermind Nathan Garrett.
The album is a fitting swan song: eight tracks of crushing doom riffs, mid-tempo passages, and soaring traditional heavy metal energy that balances the weight of finality with the urgency of someone burning every last bridge in glorious fashion. Notable guest guitar contributions come from James Murphy (DEATH, TESTAMENT), Steve Jansson, and Arthur Rizk, lending the record additional gravitas.
The tracklist — "Infinite Illumination", "Window Within", "You Will Never Hold The Key", "Born In A Bad Way", "Buried In The Shadow Of The Cross", "White Death", "I Am Sustained", and "Where Once There Was An Ocean" — runs the full emotional spectrum of the band's output, from harrowing introspection to triumphant riffing.
"Infinite Illumination" was recorded in autumn 2025 and mixed and mastered between December and January. It is available digitally and on vinyl and CD via 20 Buck Spin. The band has already played their final live show, an appropriately bittersweet affair supporting CROWBAR and EYEHATEGOD.
SPIRIT ADRIFT's first album, "Chained To Oblivion" (2016), introduced the world to Garrett's uniquely personal vision of doom metal. Ten years and six records later, "Infinite Illumination" is both a return to that foundational spirit and the fullest expression of where the journey ultimately led.
