After eight years of silence, DIMMU BORGIR are ready to reclaim their throne in symphonic black metal. The Norwegian legends release "Grand Serpent Rising" on May 22, 2026, via Nuclear Blast Records — their first full-length since "Eonian" in 2018.
Recorded in Gothenburg with producer Fredrik Nordström, the album features Daray (drums), Victor Brandt (bass), Gerlioz (keyboards), and Damage (guitars). The record explores spiritual transformation through chakra awakening, ego dissolution, and esoteric traditions — the serpent symbolizing renewal, growth, knowledge, and liberation.
Guitarist and founding member Silenoz: "We have never taken the easy way out. We have never compromised. I'd rather have quality over quantity any day." On the extended timeline: "If you do something and you don't expect a reward for it, that's usually when the great things come. The most powerful blackened art simply can't be forced without losing its essence."
With "Grand Serpent Rising", DIMMU BORGIR signal a triumphant return to form — a statement of purpose from one of metal's most ambitious and uncompromising bands. Eight years was worth the wait.
