DIMMU BORGIR Announce 'Grand Serpent Rising' — First Album In Eight Years

DIMMU BORGIR have announced their tenth studio album Grand Serpent Rising, due May 22 via Nuclear Blast Records. The record is the band's first in eight years, following 2018's Eonian, and carries thirteen tracks forged during what the band describes as their most rewarding creative process to date.

The album was recorded with acclaimed producer Fredrik Nordström in Gothenburg — the same collaborator behind DIMMU BORGIR landmarks Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia (2001) and Death Cult Armageddon (2003). Frontman Shagrath stated that Grand Serpent Rising "reflects every era of DIMMU BORGIR," while guitarist Silenoz explained the serpent symbolism: "the serpent has always been a symbol of renewal, growth, knowledge, and liberation for us."

The album's first single, "Ulvgjeld & Blodsodel," a Norwegian-language track exploring themes of heritage and generational legacy, was released alongside a cinematic music video. The timing aligns symbolically with the end of the Year of the Snake in February 2026.

The record also marks the full debut of guitarist Kjell Åge "Damage" Karlsen, who replaced longtime member Galder following his departure in 2024. DIMMU BORGIR will support the album on a massive co-headline European tour in October 2026 with BEHEMOTH, featuring DARK FUNERAL as special guests on a run titled "In League With Satan."

Pre-orders for Grand Serpent Rising are available now at Nuclear Blast's webstore.
