Wendy Dio, widow and manager of the late metal legend Ronnie James Dio, has revealed the new lineup for the officially sanctioned tribute band DIO DISCIPLES — and announced that the act will tour the United States this fall, with European and South American dates planned for 2027.
The new roster is a roll call of serious metal talent. Vocal duties will be shared between Oni Logan, formerly of LYNCH MOB, and Robin McAuley, known for his work with Michael Schenker's band. On guitar, Rowan Robertson returns — the same player who appeared on Dio's own classic "Lock Up The Wolves" album. The rhythm section features Simon Wright on drums and Bjorn Englen on bass, with Scott Warren handling keyboards.
The centerpiece of the show, however, is something truly special. Rather than relying on holograms or artificial intelligence recreations, Wendy Dio has secured real performance footage of Ronnie James Dio that will be incorporated into the live show — with the late singer projected on screen performing approximately four songs alongside the live band. It is an approach that prioritizes authenticity and genuine legacy over technological novelty.
Wendy Dio is also working on compiling previously unreleased Dio material for future release, including collaborations with other artists, unheard live performances, and personal recordings Ronnie James Dio made privately.
The name of the tribute act remains undecided — options under consideration include DIO Disciples, DIO and the Disciples, or simply DIO. Whatever the final branding, the intention is clear: to honor one of heavy metal's greatest voices with the care and seriousness his legacy demands. Ronnie James Dio passed away in 2010, but his music continues to define what heavy metal can aspire to at its most majestic.
