IRON MAIDEN Documentary 'Burning Ambition' Now Playing in Theaters Worldwide

An official IRON MAIDEN documentary has arrived — and it didn't come from the band themselves. Burning Ambition, the feature-length film chronicling the extraordinary rise and legacy of IRON MAIDEN, is now playing in theaters worldwide following a prestigious premiere at London's Royal Festival Hall on May 5, 2026.

The film is a passion project from director Toby Akel, made without direct involvement from the band, yet featuring an astonishing array of voices: rock historian Lars Ulrich of METALLICA, Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem, and Public Enemy's Chuck D are among those who speak to IRON MAIDEN's cultural impact. Their testimonials underline just how far-reaching MAIDEN's influence has spread — from heavy metal into cinema, literature, and global popular culture.

Burning Ambition traces the band's journey from working-class East London to becoming one of the biggest acts in rock history. The film covers the Steve Harris-led founding years, the explosive arrival of Bruce Dickinson, the "Somewhere in Time"-era sci-fi imagery, and the band's incredible resurgence in the 2000s.

The documentary focuses heavily on MAIDEN's relationship with their fanbase — the legendary loyal "MAIDEN army" — and the band's relentless touring culture, including the Ed Force One custom 747 they used to transport their entire touring production around the globe.

Burning Ambition is currently showing at select cinemas in the UK, US, Europe, and Australia. A streaming release has not yet been confirmed. Fans are encouraged to check local listings for screening times.
