On May 16, 2026 — the 16th anniversary of Ronnie James DIO's passing — musicians from across the metal world gathered at Bibliotek Bar & Restaurang in Medborgarplatsen, Stockholm, Sweden, to pay tribute to one of heavy metal's greatest voices. The charity event, named "Stargazer Alliance," was a non-profit concert benefiting Cancerfonden, the Swedish Cancer Society.

The lineup was stacked with seasoned performers: Björn Strid (SOILWORK, THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA), Dino Jelusić (ex-WHITESNAKE), Mats Levén (CANDLEMASS, TREAT, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN), Pontus Egberg (KING DIAMOND), Joakim Svalberg (OPETH), Linnea Wikström Egg (THUNDERMOTHER, THERION), and Kee Marcello (ex-EUROPE). Together they performed DIO classics spanning his legendary tenures in RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH, and his own band DIO.

Tributes from major rock and metal figures underscored the occasion. Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT) stated simply: "I just feel like there will never be another Ronnie James Dio. He had such a pure voice." Michael Anthony (ex-VAN HALEN) noted Dio's "real powerful voice," while Slash called him "probably one of the most influential heavy metal singers of all time."

Ronnie James DIO was born July 10, 1942, and died May 16, 2010, from stomach cancer, aged 67. His legacy stretches from fronting RAINBOW in the 1970s to redefining BLACK SABBATH's sound before launching his own massively successful DIO project. His 1983 debut Holy Diver remains an undisputed cornerstone of the genre.

Sixteen years on, the Stargazer Alliance proved that Dio's flame burns as brightly as ever in the hearts of metal musicians and fans alike.
