Death metal band FUMING MOUTH have unleashed "Cheat Death," the latest single from their upcoming album "The Ringing Bell," due July 17 via Triple B Records.
The track opens the record, and frontman Mark Whelan wanted it to land like a hammer. "This is the opening song on our new album. It was important to me to start it with a blunt and positive message that didn't beat around the bush," he said.
"Cheat Death" follows previous single "A Blaze Of Nihilism" and arrives with FUMING MOUTH's profile higher than ever, thanks in part to the arrival of drummer JAY WEINBERG. The former SLIPKNOT and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES drummer now sits behind the kit alongside Whelan, who handles vocals and guitar.
The pairing carries extra resonance: Whelan himself survived a battle with leukemia, and FUMING MOUTH's music has long grappled with mortality, survival and resilience — themes that run straight through "The Ringing Bell." Its eleven tracks include "Self-Exhumed," "Finally Fearless," "After Oblivion," "Flourishing Flesh," "Barbarian Scourge" and the title cut.
The Connecticut-bred band have steadily climbed the death metal underground, and the addition of a drummer of WEINBERG's pedigree signals real ambition for this next chapter.
FUMING MOUTH will keep the momentum going on the road. In August they join SIX FEET UNDER for a U.S. tour, followed by a September-October run with REVOCATION, DEFEATED SANITY and WEEPING. "The Ringing Bell" is out July 17 on Triple B Records.
