INSOMNIUM Unveil First Single "Shadowlife" — Tenth Album Arrives In October

Finnish melodic death metal institution INSOMNIUM have opened the next chapter of their career, releasing "Shadowlife" — the first single and music video from their forthcoming tenth studio album, due in October 2026.

For more than two decades INSOMNIUM have been one of the most reliable names in melancholic, atmosphere-drenched death metal, and "Shadowlife" finds the band leaning further into the dreamlike, melodic side that has always shadowed their heavier instincts. The accompanying video was produced by Coldstore Productions.

Bassist and vocalist Niilo Sevänen framed the song as something more than a love song lost to grief, calling it "an elegy not only for a lost beloved, but also for the fading belief that anything beautiful can remain untouched by time." It is a characteristically literary sentiment from a band whose lyrics have always read like northern poetry — tales of loss, longing, frost and fading light.

Guitarist and clean vocalist Markus Vanhala described the track as the doorway into a new era: "Shadowlife opens the dreamy next chapter of INSOMNIUM with a certain self-aware catchiness." That balance — crushing melodic death metal weight wrapped around hooks you can actually hum — has long been the band's signature, from "Above The Weeping World" through the celebrated "Winter's Gate" to 2023's "Anno 1696."

The new, as-yet-untitled album will be the band's tenth full-length, a milestone few melodic death metal acts reach with their reputation not only intact but growing. INSOMNIUM have spent recent years touring relentlessly across Europe, North America and beyond, and the arrival of a new single typically signals a fresh round of live dates to follow.

With "Shadowlife," INSOMNIUM prove once again that there is still vast emotional territory to explore within their chosen sound — heavy, sorrowful, and quietly beautiful. October cannot come soon enough.
