Exciter Records has announced a newly restored 50th-anniversary edition of JUDAS PRIEST's landmark 1976 album "Sad Wings Of Destiny," which will debut in an exclusive CD format at merchandise stands during the band's ongoing "Faithkeepers" summer 2026 European tour.
Titled "Sad Wings Of Destiny (Original 1976 Masters)," the edition was transferred directly from the original 1976 analog stereo master tapes at British Grove Studios in London, a process supervised by longtime JUDAS PRIEST producer Tom Allom and engineer Luie Stylianou. The reissue was subsequently mastered by Grammy-winning engineer Matt Colton at Metropolis Studios. Notably, the new edition restores the album's originally intended running order, opening with the instrumental "Prelude" rather than the sequencing used on most previous pressings.
Exciter Records founder Michael Closter emphasized the archival rigor behind the project, stating the label has "created the most faithful presentation of the original 'Sad Wings Of Destiny.'" The album, released in the midst of JUDAS PRIEST's earliest creative peak, is widely regarded as one of the foundational records of heavy metal, featuring staples such as "Victim Of Changes," "The Ripper" and "Genocide," and helping establish the twin-guitar attack that would go on to define the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement that followed.
The reissue's tour-exclusive rollout means fans hoping to obtain a copy will need to attend one of the band's "Faithkeepers" European dates this summer, with no immediate word on a wider retail release. The timing places the restored edition squarely within JUDAS PRIEST's broader 50th-anniversary celebrations, a milestone the band has marked throughout 2026 with archival releases and career-spanning setlists drawing from across their five-decade catalog.
