MASTODON have announced their ninth studio album, Marrow Deep, set for release on August 28 via Loma Vista Recordings, and shared its new single "Snakes For Dinner," featuring Josh Homme of Queens Of The Stone Age.
Marrow Deep is the band's first album since founding guitarist Brent Hinds departed MASTODON in March 2025 and was killed five months later in a motorcycle accident in Atlanta. The record was made with touring guitarist Nick Johnston, who has stepped into Hinds' place, alongside longtime members Brann Dailor (drums, vocals), Troy Sanders (bass, vocals) and Bill Kelliher (guitar), with keyboardist João Nogueira making significant contributions throughout.
"Bill, Brann and myself are thrilled that we still have the opportunity to do this," Sanders said of the band's renewed sense of purpose.
Marrow Deep was co-produced by MASTODON with Patrik Berger and Kurt Ballou at West End Sound in Atlanta, and mixed by Andrew Scheps. Its title and artwork, painted by longtime collaborator Paul Romano, draw on the Three Fates of Greek mythology, tying the record's themes of loss, fragility and destiny to the years since Hinds' departure and death.
"Snakes For Dinner" follows earlier single "Your Ghost Again" as the second preview of the album and arrives with an accompanying music video. MASTODON will tour behind the record on "The Poisonous Weapons" North American run this fall with support from Deafheaven and Alcest.
