MISERY INDEX Release Ferocious New Single 'Feral Future'

MISERY INDEX has released a new single, "Feral Future," its first new music in four years and the first taste of the death metal/grindcore veterans' upcoming eighth full-length.

25 years into a career built on relentless touring and seven acclaimed records, the Baltimore band — featuring current and former members of DYING FETUS and PIG DESTROYER — enters this next chapter freshly re-signed to Season Of Mist, with "Feral Future" landing just weeks before MISERY INDEX heads out on its "An Epitaph For Endtimes" headline tour of Europe and the U.K.

Bassist/vocalist Jason Netherton framed the song as a shift in perspective rather than a straightforward statement of aggression. "'Feral Future' is about changing the way we think about our relationship with nature," Netherton said. "Nature isn't something we rule over or exist outside of. It's something we are immersed in everywhere all the time. This song champions the rewilding of damaged and corrupted human spaces and reclaims a more feral connection that respects the sublime wonder of nature."

Musically, the track keeps MISERY INDEX's social commentary as sharp as its riffs: drummer Adam Jarvis pounds his kit "until they're one with the dirt," while guitarists Mark Kloeppel and Darin Morris lock into a filthy, headbanging groove beneath Netherton's growled delivery. "This is our future," Netherton snarls during the song's closing sprint — a grim warning dressed up in some of the band's most untamed songwriting to date.

"Feral Future" was among the very first songs written for MISERY INDEX's next album, and its raw energy reportedly helped shape the record's broader thematic direction, positioning the single as more than a standalone teaser. The accompanying lyric video was created by Cloud Motion Design.

MISERY INDEX kicks off its European and U.K. run on July 28 in Helsinki, with stops at Wacken Open Air, Dortmund Death Fest, Sylak Open Air, Party San Open Air, Summer Breeze and Reload Festival among the 13 confirmed dates running through August 15.
