MISS MAY I has released a video for "Hand Me A Halo," the newest cut from the metalcore band's upcoming album "No Place For Me," due October 2 via Solid State Records.
The track continues the confessional streak the Ohio band has leaned into throughout its catalog. "This song came from our own confusion and loss of identity through the changing seasons of life," vocalist Levi Benton said of the track, which pairs heavy, downtuned riffing with the kind of open-wound melodic hook MISS MAY I has built a career on.
The video leans into that vulnerability visually, built around intrusive-thought imagery and a title that doubles as something the narrator can't quite reach for himself. Benton has described the surrounding album in similarly personal terms: "'No Place For Me' is everything I've felt for a long time but never had the words for."
"No Place For Me" also marks a lineup shift for the band, with guitarist Elisha Mullins stepping into the writing process for the first time alongside longtime members Benton, drummer Jerod Boyd and bassist Ryan Neff. Mullins' background outside performing has already left a mark on the record, according to Benton: "He comes from being a producer. All this new music we're doing, it's stuff we've never had before."
Formed in Troy, Ohio in 2007, MISS MAY I broke through with 2010's "Monument" and has spent the years since balancing radio-ready hooks against genuinely brutal breakdowns, a combination that has kept the band a fixture on major package tours across the metalcore circuit.
"Hand Me A Halo" suggests "No Place For Me" will keep pulling in that direction — riffs built for the pit, lyrics built for the diary. The album arrives October 2, with more details on the tracklist and rollout expected in the weeks ahead.
