FIREKEEPER ALLIANCE, the nonprofit dedicated to suicide prevention in Indigenous communities, has premiered an original short film made in collaboration with NEUROSIS, built around two tracks from the band's 2026 album, "An Undying Love For A Burning World" — "We Are Torn Wide Open" and "Mirror Deep." The film arrives just as this week's Fire In The Mountains gathering gets underway on the Blackfeet Nation's traditional lands in Montana.
The project centers on four young people from Browning, Montana, confronted by a malevolent spirit, who ultimately overcome the threat not alone but through connection with one another — a narrative built directly around FIREKEEPER ALLIANCE's core belief that community bonds are among the strongest protective factors against suicide. Four Browning Public Schools students — Haley Running Crane, David Fast Buffalo Horse, Reb Pollock and Paul Medicine Horse — were involved at every stage of production, working alongside professional filmmakers and musicians as actors, production assistants, location support, creative collaborators and storytellers.
The film was directed by Jason Nix and Bobby Cochran, whose months of travel, filming and editing captured both the landscape of Blackfeet country and the community that inhabits it. The production also drew on contributions from Sim Schildt, along with support from Larry Ground and Lee Little Mustache.
"The film serves as both an artistic collaboration and a reflection of Firekeeper Alliance's mission to reduce suicide by strengthening the protective factors that sustain life," said Charlie Speicher, director and founder of FIREKEEPER ALLIANCE. This project represents what is possible when internationally respected artists, visionary filmmakers, educators, students, and the Blackfeet community unite around a shared purpose... The film's release coincides with NEUROSIS's return to the stage at Fire In The Mountains on July 25, the band's first live show in seven years, on a bill that also includes 16 HORSEPOWER, ENSLAVED, BARONESS, YOB, AGALLOCH and THE RUINS OF BEVERAST. "An Undying Love For A Burning World," NEUROSIS's surprise-released first album in a decade, was recorded by Scott Evans (KOWLOON WALLED CITY, SUMAC, GREAT FALLS) at Studio Litho in Seattle and mixed at Evans's Antisleep Audio in Oakland.
