NEUROSIS played its first live show in seven years on July 25 at the Fire In The Mountains festival, held on Blackfeet Nation lands in Montana, marking the live debut of the influential sludge/post-metal band's current lineup.
The appearance came as a special invitation from Firekeeper Alliance, a nonprofit organization focused on reducing youth suicide in Indian Country, tying the band's return to the stage to a cause outside of a standard tour cycle. Fan-shot video of the performance has since circulated online, including footage posted to YouTube's Jackal Today channel.
The current NEUROSIS lineup features longtime core members Steve Von Till on vocals and guitar, Jason Roeder on drums, and Dave Edwardson on bass, alongside keyboardist Noah Landis. Notably, the band's stage lineup now also includes Aaron Turner on keyboards and guitar — the SUMAC and ISIS musician stepping into a live role with the band for this run. The set drew a ten-song list spanning the band's catalog: "We Are Torn Wide Open," "Mirror Deep," "First Red Rays," "End Of The Harvest," "The Tide," "Lost," "Seething And Scattered," "Distill (Watching The Swarm)," "Blind" and "Untethered."
The show follows the March 2026 release of "An Undying Love For A Burning World" via Neurot Recordings, NEUROSIS's first album in a decade. The record was tracked by Scott Evans across three winter weekends at Studio Litho in Seattle and mixed over six weeks at Antisleep Audio in Oakland before its release earlier this year.
Asked about past band statements addressing lineup and direction, Von Till kept his comments measured: "Everything we had to say about that, we said in that statement that we did at that time, and we still stand by exactly those words," declining to elaborate further on internal band matters and instead letting the Fire In The Mountains performance speak for the band's current chapter. With the new lineup now tested on stage and an acclaimed new album behind them, NEUROSIS appears positioned for further live dates, though none have been formally announced beyond this festival appearance.
