Australian technical death metal architects PSYCROPTIC have released a music video for "Ashes Of A New Dawn," the latest single from their new full-length, "The Pulse Of Annihilation," due out this Friday, July 17 via Metal Blade Records.
Bassist Todd Stern called the track a standout in the band's catalog. "Loooooove this song. It's the type of song that gives you imagery as you listen. Slow, melty intro… next thing you know you have to run for your life. Great moments of intensity, all in good fun. It's aggressive as fuck but it's also like a party song! Highly recommended," he said. Vocalist Jason Peppiatt added that the song continues a lyrical thread from the band's prior album: "Lyrically, this song is kind of a sequel to 'Ashes Of Our Empire' off the Divine Council album but musically it's a total Joe Haley riff fest!"
"The Pulse Of Annihilation" marks the latest chapter for a band widely regarded as one of technical death metal's most consistent forces, and the record finds PSYCROPTIC leaning into compositional restraint alongside their trademark complexity. Stern described the album as the band's most mature work to date: "My favorite thing about the catalog of this band is that it truly gets more mature with each release. Our newest material is the most 'grown,' so to speak. This record maintains the razor-sharp wit that PSYCROPTIC is kinda known for, but it also has this element to the song writing that feels a bit more masterful than ever before."
Ahead of the official release, PSYCROPTIC will stream "The Pulse Of Annihilation" in its entirety on YouTube tonight, July 16 at 7 p.m. PT / 10 p.m. ET, with the band joining fans in a live chat during the premiere. The following day, to mark the album's release, the band will host a Reddit AMA on July 17 at 6 p.m. PT / 9 p.m. ET.
