SILVERTOMB has announced its second album, "The Interpretation Of Nightmares," set for release on Friday, November 13 via Steamhammer. The doom metal outfit built around two former TYPE O NEGATIVE members returns after a seven-year silence with a record whose delay, singer and guitarist Kenny Hickey says, was down to circumstances entirely outside the band's control.
Hickey — who also spent time in DANZIG — leads SILVERTOMB alongside fellow TYPE O NEGATIVE alumnus Johnny Kelly on drums. The rest of the lineup draws from New York's hardcore scene: guitarist Joe James (AGNOSTIC FRONT), bassist Hank Hell (SHEER TERROR), and multi-instrumentalist Aaron Joos, who handles guitar, keyboards and vocals.
"Just as things were really beginning to take off for SILVERTOMB, our hands were suddenly tied for a number of years due to the pandemic and its long-lasting aftermath; on top of that, I had a drinking problem that urgently needed sorting out," Hickey said, addressing the gap since the band's 2019 debut, "Edge Of Existence," head-on.
The follow-up is previewed by "No Way To Live," described as one of the album's faster cuts, built around themes of rejection and pain — familiar territory for a band that inherited its blend of goth atmosphere and street-level heaviness from TYPE O NEGATIVE and AGNOSTIC FRONT in equal measure.

Eight songs, a title borrowed from Freud, and a release date stamped on a Friday the 13th — SILVERTOMB isn't hiding its debts to gothic dread. Whether the record can recapture the momentum the band had built before 2020 remains to be heard, but Hickey's candor about the years in between suggests "The Interpretation Of Nightmares" will carry some of that weight directly into the songs.
