STEELHEART Shares Music Video For BADFINGER Cover 'Without You,' Recorded 30 Years Ago

STEELHEART has released an official music video for its cover of BADFINGER's power ballad "Without You," a recording frontman Miljenko Matijevic tracked roughly 30 years ago but held back from release until now. The video, directed by Matijevic himself, was filmed across three West Coast locations — Patrick's Point in California, Gold Beach in Oregon and Malibu — and is built around a 40-piece orchestral arrangement.

Written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans, "Without You" first appeared on BADFINGER's 1970 album "No Dice" before becoming a chart-topping standard through Harry Nilsson's 1971 version and later Mariah Carey's 1994 cover. STEELHEART's rendition arrives as part of the band's "Steelheart 30" campaign, marking three decades since the July 10, 1990 release of the band's self-titled debut album.

That debut sold 33,000 copies on its first day in Japan alone, went platinum in the U.S. and reached No. 40 on the Billboard 200, propelled largely by the ballad "She's Gone," which spent 17 weeks atop international charts and has since surpassed 278 million streams on Spotify. The new video's release keeps that anniversary campaign in front of fans with a previously unheard piece of the band's archive.

Matijevic, born in Zagreb, Croatia and raised in the U.S. from age six, has built a career beyond STEELHEART that includes providing Mark Wahlberg's singing voice in the 2001 film "Rock Star" and, more unusually, a stint fronting a version of THE DOORS alongside surviving members Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger. He also survived severe injuries from a 1992 stage accident that sidelined the band for several years at the height of its commercial run.

Looking ahead, Matijevic has teased a 2026 hard rock collaboration with guitarist Niclas Englin, known for his work with THE HALO EFFECT and, previously, IN FLAMES — a project that would mark a notable stylistic departure from STEELHEART's glam-metal roots. For now, "Without You" gives longtime fans a long-delayed glimpse into the band's vault as its 30th-anniversary campaign continues through the rest of 2026.
