TRIVIUM guitarist Corey Beaulieu and bassist Paolo Gregoletto gave an update on the band's forthcoming studio album in a new interview with Metalshop TV, describing the record — the band's first full-length with new drummer Alex Rüdinger — as a deliberate reinvention rather than a straightforward follow-up to 2021's "In The Court Of The Dragon."
"It's kind of up in the air. It's been five years, so there's not too much more to wait, but it's gonna be worth the wait," Beaulieu said of the album's release timing, with the record currently expected sometime in late 2026 or early 2027. He was more direct about what listeners should expect from the finished product: "This is a whole new kind of chapter for the band. It still sounds like TRIVIUM, but it's kind of a little bit of a reinvention."
Gregoletto echoed that sentiment, suggesting the band has pushed itself further than usual during the writing process. "I'll just say, people are gonna be very surprised. We've elevated it in a lot of ways, and we really tried to focus on making the best songs possible," he said.
The five-year gap between "In The Court Of The Dragon" and the still-untitled follow-up marks an unusually long wait for a band that had previously kept a rapid release pace, having put out two full-lengths within a single year earlier in its career. Beaulieu and Gregoletto attributed part of the delay to pandemic-era disruptions that reshaped the band's usual writing and touring cycle, ultimately giving TRIVIUM more room for extended creative planning than it has typically allowed itself.
The album will also mark the studio debut of drummer Alex Rüdinger, who joined TRIVIUM last October following the departure of longtime drummer Alex Bent. Rüdinger, previously known for his work with WHITECHAPEL, THE FACELESS and ANIMALS AS LEADERS, brings a technically dense background to a band already known for its intricate arrangements, adding another layer of anticipation to a record Beaulieu and Gregoletto are already framing as a turning point.
With no confirmed release date yet, TRIVIUM's camp has offered little beyond the assurance that the wait is nearly over — a message underscored just one day later by the band's own announcement of a fall 2026 North American tour built in part around introducing its next era on the road.
