Denver, Colorado metalcore quintet UNDER AUBURN SKIES is streaming its new EP, "Diminisher Of Hope," in full via an exclusive advance premiere at Decibel Magazine ahead of the record's official release this Friday, July 17.
The six-track EP marks a bleaker, more dejected turn for the band, sharpening both its songwriting and its members' individual performances. Drums were tracked by Nick Nodurft at Rusty Sun Studios, guitars and bass by Emilio Lujan, and vocals and additional guitars by Jaxon Stunden at The Blasting Room, with Chris Wiseman handling mixing and mastering at his own studio. Róbert Horváth of Holo Dreamz Designs created the cover art.
Vocalist Sebastian Gorklo said "Diminisher Of Hope" marks the first time he has brought full songs to completion rather than fragments, calling the process a study in how much a song changes as it's written. "'World-Eater' is my observations and feelings on the current state of division within our country," Gorklo said, "but outside of that, all the songs are inspired by specific people in my life... it's not a critique of them as a person, it's what I experienced and felt as we were in each other's lives." He singled out closer "Final Sin" as the EP's most personal moment, saying he was in tears writing some of its lyrics as he worked through what he called his "biggest wound" during a difficult, transformative stretch of the past few years.
Decibel described the EP as "lyrically heavy and emotional, yet musically both melodic and brutal."
UNDER AUBURN SKIES will celebrate the release with a hometown show on July 31 at The O in Denver, supported by The Burial Plot, Colony Collapse, Buried In Lies and After Eclipse, followed by a November 14 date at the same venue opening for FEAR FACTORY and DARKEST HOUR, with more shows currently being booked.
Formed around vocalist Gorklo, guitarists Oscar Morales and Zach Morgan, bassist Jose Morales and drummer Martin Pasillas, UNDER AUBURN SKIES has built its sound — pummeling riffs paired with soaring melodies, drawing comparisons to POLARIS and MAKE THEM SUFFER — across 2018's "Afterimage" and 2021's "Invention Of Reason" EP, along with support slots for BORN OF OSIRIS, NORMA JEAN, DARKEST HOUR, ENTHEOS, MOUTH FOR WAR, CARNIFEX, ENTERPRISE EARTH and FALLUJAH.
