A KILLER'S CONFESSION, the alternative metal band led by former MUSHROOMHEAD vocalist Waylon Reavis, have released a version of The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" that abandons almost everything the band normally does.
Gone are the crushing low end and the aggression; what is left is the melody and Reavis's voice. It is a deliberate move away from the group's usual register, and it followed the reception of an earlier cover. "I enjoyed doing 'Heart-Shaped Box' so much and it was so well received I felt like maybe I should do another," Reavis explained, referring to the NIRVANA reworking that appeared on 2025's "Victim 2" and whose video is approaching a million views. "This time I wanted to do something in a different genre and go a completely different route. I always enjoy the song 'Blinding Lights'; [there's] just something catchy and haunting about it. I feel like it could be the perfect song to be stuck in our character's head for the last time ever as we end this trilogy."
That trilogy closes this autumn with "Victim 3", the band's sixth studio album, due via MNRK Heavy. "Victim 1" arrived in 2024 and "Victim 2" in 2025 — an unusually fast run for a band a decade into its existence.
Formed in 2016, A KILLER'S CONFESSION built its identity on heavy riffs and grooves cut with electronic texture and a dark cinematic streak, drawing tens of millions of streams behind tracks such as "Numb" and "Angel On The Outside". Reavis has collaborated widely across the scene, including with Brian "Head" Welch of KORN, Chad Gray of MUDVAYNE, Aaron Nordstrom of GEMINI SYNDROME and his former MUSHROOMHEAD bandmate JMANN.
The band takes the album on the road in November on the "Everything Comes Full Circle Tour", a 24-date headline run with DIZASTERPIECE and DEAD THINGS. It opens November 4 in Raleigh, North Carolina and works through Baltimore, Lowell, Clifton, Warrendale, Flint, Louisville, Columbus, Lawrence, Lincoln, Des Moines, Sioux Falls, Rapid City and Denver before hitting the West Coast — Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood on November 25, Anaheim, San Francisco — and closing December 5 at Mercury Music Lounge in Lakewood, Ohio.
