BREAKING IN A SEQUENCE has released "Don't Run," a new single from the upcoming album "Inanimate," due later this year via TLG|ZOID, distributed through Virgin Music Group.
"The song carries the nu metal torch from the early 2000's with a perfect blend of melody, groove and aggression," the band said of the track, which leans directly into that era's sound while running it through more contemporary instrumentation and production. "Don't Run" also marks a lineup milestone for the band: it's the first song written with drummer BC Vaught, whose arrival gets credit for shaping the track's groove-driven backbone.
The single was produced by Chris Collier alongside the band, with Collier also handling mixing and mastering — a combination aimed at keeping the track's heavier moments punchy without losing the melodic hooks the band is built around.
"Inanimate" is shaping up as BREAKING IN A SEQUENCE's most fully realized nu metal statement yet, arriving at a moment when the genre's early-2000s wave — and bands who came up in its shadow — has found renewed interest from both nostalgic longtime fans and a newer audience discovering the sound for the first time. With "Don't Run" as an early marker, the band is positioning "Inanimate" as a bid to claim a place in that revival rather than simply ride alongside it.
